VIRTUAL REUNIFICATION COACHING

We provide virtual reunification coaching for parents and teens between the ages of 11-16 who have experienced a disruption in their relationship. We specialize providing virtual reunification services for resist/refusal dynamics for the Family Courts in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Providing virtual reunification services gives us the flexibility to work with multiple schedules, allowing for more consistent contact.

When conducting Reunification Services, we incorporate the principles of family therapy and parent coaching to reestablish or enhance the bond between parent and child. We provide coaching for both parents, focusing on how they can support their child during reunification. Both parents learn how to communicate more effectively with their child and to empathize with all of the feelings the child has about the separation/interruption and preceding events.

Parental Coaching may include helping both parents with learning how to increase communication skills and developing child focused streamlined communication with their co parent. Additionally, coaching also includes education about child development and other issues related specifically to their child or family.

This training enables the visiting parent to engage in therapeutically supervised non-directive play/expressive arts sessions with their child in order to rebuild the relationship and to work through any issues the child may have with the targeted parent due to the separation. There is also an opportunity to work on co-parenting concerns and communication which ideally includes the residential parent. As relationships improve outside contact between the visiting parent and child begins or increases and the therapeutic sessions are phased out.

The Process

The first step after a referral is made is for assessment of readiness for reunification with both parents and the child. We do not accept reunification cases without a court order or a consent agreement. We will provide the appropriate language in the consent or court ordered agreement should both parties agree to use our services. In addition to intakes, we gather feedback from other family members and professionals, review of psychological records and evaluations and court orders. Specific barriers to reunification are explored and additional services or supports may be recommended to improve outcomes.

Depending on the families needs, we provide a proposal of the structure and sessions needed for reunification. If agreed upon, we provide recommendations on phasing out of reunification if agreed upon by all parties and their legal counsel.

The reunification services we provide are appropriate for families who are comfortable with technology, children who are engaging in services are 11-16, and all parties are comfortable with meetings being facilitated through virtual services.
